Palace Tour

Empress Maria Theresa made Schloss Schonbrunn into her magnificent summer residence. All her successors resided at the palace during summer and ruled the empire from there. Especially Emperor Franz Joseph liked to spend his time at the Palace Schonbrunn.

Take a tour of the glamorous and private rooms of the emperors accompanied by an audio guide. For groups of 10 people or more a separate guide will be available to show you the apartments of Maria Theresa exclusively and outside the regular opening times of the palace.

Dinner

At the Ehrenhof ('Court of Honor'), right beside the entrance of Schloss Schonbrunn, in the rooms of the former imperial kitchen lies the Caf-Restaurant Residenz. Here, you will enjoy a three-course dinner by candlelight. In summer, dinner is served on the cozy outside dining area.

Concert

In walking distance from the main entrance to Schloss Schoenbrunn and the Caf-Restaurant Residenz lies the Orangery Schonbrunn. Since imperial times, this was a place for courtly festivities and banquets. During one of these events Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri held a unique music contest. In this historic ambience the Schonbrunn Palace Orchestra performs the most beautiful works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss.

From the beginning of April to the end of October, at Christmas and at New Year's Eve, the concert will be performed by the Schonbrunn Palace Orchestra in grand cast. In late autumn and in winter the concert will be performed by the Schonbrunn Chamber Ensemble.

Since individual guests will be taking the tour accompanied by an audioguide, they are free to choose the time of the visit as long as they take it within the palace's official opening hours. Groups of more than 10 will enjoy an exclusive guided tour given by one of the palace's guides in the evening, after the palace has closed for the public and quieted down. Schonbrunn Palace with an extra special touch! Following your tour of the palace's ceremonial rooms, the Schonbrunn Palace Orchestra will take you on a journey to the world of Mozart and Strauss, accompanied by singing and dance - performed exclusively for you at Schonbrunn Palace Orangery.

Newmarket Racecourse is delighted to announce that MADNESS will be returning to Newmarket Nights in association with Heart FM on Friday 6th August. This will be the third time Madness have been part of the Newmarket Nights line-up following sell-out performances in 2007 and 2008.

MADNESS are the ultimate British singles band, holding the record for British single sales in the 1980’s when over 6 million Madness singles were bought by the British public. Over a thirty year career, their string of Top Ten hits are part of the lifeblood of British popular music and their influence on generations of musicians cannot be overstated.

With their latest album, ‘The Liberty Of Norton Folgate’, collecting continuous praise from the critics and re-establishing the band in the UK Top Five, is the ultimate Madness Best Of and a great introduction to or reminder of one of the UK’s most cherished bands.

Panic Room features current and ex-members of Karnataka, Mostly Autumn and Fish's band. While the music has progressive elements it also appeals to a much broader audience with its melodic and powerful song-writing. Although primarily a rock band, folk, jazz and world music influences also ripple through the mix to produce a unique and individual sound. Inventively melodic guitar solos, interweaving keyboard lines and a subtly powerful rhythm section are topped off with the stunning voice of Anne-Marie Hedler, a very individual and emotional singer whose soaring melodies and inventive lyrics draw the listener into new worlds.

Panic Room are Paul Davies, Jonathan Edwards, Gavin John Griffiths, Anne-Marie Hedler and Alun Vaughan.

Singer-songwriter Garron Frith's country rock songs have gained him high praise. For this concert he is joined by Manchester acoustic folk artists John Herring and Roydan Styles.

Preston Reed is a New York visionary credited with reinventing the acoustic guitar. He fuses chord-based grooves, soaring melodic runs and polyrhythmic percussion with his breathtaking two-handed style.

Unlike many instrumentalists, the power and depth of Reed's original songwriting is as unique as the man's execution, as blues, rock, funk and jazz meet, embrace, interlock and attack to create a sonic brew quite unlike anything you've heard before.

The hobopop collective adds to the distinctive and accomplished duo of kirsty mcgee & mat martin the skills of two of the country's most exciting emerging jazz musicians. the quirky and inspired double bass of nick blacka (aim, mrs columbo) and imaginative drumming of rob turner (neil yates' new origins, magic hat ensemble) add dimensions of jazz and rockabilly to mcgee's already exceptional rootsy songwriting and martin's sensitive banjo and guitar playing; shading and colouring the songs with grainy 'hobopop' style.

Scottish firebrands Breabach are one of the most talked about bands on the folk scene. Their innovative Celtic style shows flare, excitement and diversity rarely seen from such a young group. The band have received two nominations two years in a row from the Scottish Trad Music Awards for Best Scottish Folk Band.

Singer, musician & songwriter Natalie Merchant was previously the lead singer in 10,000 Maniacs the early 80’s American alternative/college rock band whose hits include ‘Peace Train'.

Natalie left 10,000 Maniacs in 1993 to pursue a solo career & to date she has released four solo albums including 1995’s ‘Tigerlily’ which which included the top 10 American single ‘Carnival’. Her new album ‘Leave Your Sleep’ will be released on 12th April.
